FRESH LIGHT ON THE Gold Coast
“Very GC” is the way Australia’s favourite playground, the Gold Coast, likes to promote itself these days.
There’s a clever bit of self-mockery that plays on the phrase, “very Gold Coast”, to describe something a bit flash and perhaps a little tacky.
Today’s “Very GC” consists of sleek and stylish shopping malls, theme parks that continually reinvent themselves, world-class restaurants, great wineries and a quality outdoor experience that’s near perfect all year round.

If you haven’t visited the Gold Coast for a while, you’ll be amazed to see how Surfers Paradise has morphed into a far more vibrant and sophisticated place to relax and savour the soft sea breezes. Take a ride to the 77th Level of Q1, the tallest residential tower in the Southern Hemisphere and drink in the views up and down the coast.
At the base of the building is Absinthe, a restaurant run by a chef with Michelin-star credentials and well on its way to gaining iconic status as the Gold Coast’s top diner. The Tedder Avenue restaurant strip is the place to go to be seen by everyone who counts on the coast!
The Gold Coast Hinterland is loved for its rainforests, temperate climate and creative talents of the people who have made it their home. Among them are a new generation of winemakers who currently have more than 1,300 hectares of vines, producing some highly acclaimed wines.
Tamborine Mountain has some great galleries and cafes, as well as a thriving avocado industry. It’s also well known for its rhubarb and kiwi fruit. The oldest winery and vineyard is at the beautiful Tamborine Estate. Albert River Wines, with its cellar-door tasting rooms and Verandah Restaurant, is housed in the former Auchenflower House, a famous Brisbane landmark that was home to three former Queensland Premiers.
