Far South Coast NSW, Travel InformationTouring – Far South Coast Following the Princes Highway south from Ulladulla, this route passes through some of the prettiest natural aspects of the NSW South Coast. Hidden Delights of the South Coast The popular resort town of Ulladulla, with a sheltered harbour that fostered an early shipbuilding industry, lies 227 kilometres south of Sydney. As the highway progresses south, there are many opportunities to commune with the local wildlife. Burrill Lake, five kilometres south of Ulladulla, is popular with fishermen; while Pebbly Beach, past the small communities of Bawley Point and Kioloa, has a tame kangaroo population. Narooma, further south, is located near the site of another famous gold strike in 1880. Offshore from Narooma lies the 82 hectare Montague Island Nature Reserve, home to fur seals and little penguins. Tilba Tilba has many timber buildings, including the restored cheese factory that attracts lovers of fine food and produce. A side road leads to Bermagui, renowned amongst sportsfishermen for its marlin and yellowfin tuna.
Eden, the last major town before the Victorian border, was initially settled by whalers but is now as much a resort town as a fishing port. The Killer Whale Museum recreates the early days, while whale watching is popular in October and November. |
