Nimmitabel is a small but interesting rural township on the Southern Tablelands, 38 km north of Cooma. The Nimmitabel Cemetery is quite historic with headstones dating back to 1842. There are also numerous heritage buildings in Nimmitabel, such as the Nimitybelle Emporium (1890s), the Nimmitabel Heritage Centre building (pre-1870), the Nimmitabel Police Station (1863), the Old Flour Mill (1865-72), St Andrew's Catholic Church (1856), which was the first stone church in the Monaro, the Royal Arms Guesthouse (c.1850) and St Peter's Anglican Church (1878-82). Historic accommodation is available in Nimmitabel.
