Nelson Bay is a coastal resort town located just inside the mouth of Port Stephens. Nelson Bay has everything the visitor could want as far as tourism facilities and aquatic recreation goes: a marina, fine beaches, miles of scenic coastline, whale-watching cruises, fishing charters, dive charters, yacht tours, houseboats, a ferry across to Tea Gardens, offshore wrecks, hire facilities, a bicycle track, the Inner Lighthouse (1872) at Nelson Bay Headland, Gan Gan Lookout, a family recreation park and plenty of bushwalking opportunities and excellent lookouts in Tomaree National Park.
