Description of Scone

Scone is a pleasant rural centre of wide, tree-lined streets situated within the Hunter Valley, 26 km north of Muswellbrook. Known as 'The Horse Capital of Australia' Scone has a number of historic buildings, including St Luke's Anglican Church of Scone (1883-84), the Scone Gaol Museum in the old lock-up and constable's quarters (1870) and St Aubins Arms which is the oldest surviving building in town (1836). East of Scone is the popular and scenic Lake Glenbawn Recreation Area and Birnam Wood Winery is to the south. A-grade accommodation is available around Scone.
