Queenstown is a copper and goldmining town surrounded by undulating hills. Now a classified historic town Queenstown features a number of significant buildings, including the Empire Hotel (1901) with its beautiful handmade blackwood staircase. The Galley Museum is located in Queenstown's first brick hotel, the Imperial (1898). Its 800 well-documented photogaphs cover the history of the West Coast. There are tours of the local mines and fine vantage points over the local area along the Queenstown-Hobart road. Excellent guesthouse accommodation is available at Queenstown.
