The BURN-SIDE situated in the heart of North Otago's Waiareka Valley was where John Reid of Scotland first settled c.1864. establishing the Elderslie estate of 35000 acres. In 1874 a grand Elderslie mansion was built and the Burn-side taken over by John Forrester Reid, builder of the present BURNSIDE HOMESTEAD completed in 1898. Sadly, Elderslie Mansion was destroyed by fire in 1957; you can still see its remains and restored parkland. Landscaped back in the 1860?s, Elderslie and Burnside earned the accolade in the 1904 Cyclopedia of "A sylvan landscape without compare in all New Zealand."
Burnside Guests enjoy the exclusive use of the original house, its suites, drawing room, library and billiard room, conservatory and formal dining room.
All Guest Suites are fully en-suited with contemporary facilities. Historic antiques grace all rooms. A total of ten guests may be accommodated with choice of rooms in main house or servants' wing or coach house.
