Napier is a charming city located on Hawke Bay on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island. Named after Charles Napier, the British general, the city of Napier was planned and developed in the 1850s. Today it is an attractive seaside destination with a pleasant and mild climate. It is known for its restaurants, its attractive 1930s art deco architecture (there is even a Napier Art Deco Trust) and its promenade, Marine Parade, which is lined with elegant Norfolk pines.
