Glebe is more correctly known as The Glebe which means 'church lands'. In 1789 Governor Phillip reserved Glebe for exclusive church use. It was subsequently sold in 1828 and many handsome residences were built. Today Glebe is a classic inner city suburb of terrace houses, cafes and restaurants and excellent bookshops. People travel from all over Sydney to Glebe to visit Gleebooks.
