Tea Gardens is a small township located adjacent the northern head of Port Stephens, 77 km north-east of Newcastle. Separated from the town of Hawks Nest by the mouth of the Myall River, Tea Gardens offers both houseboat and farm accommodation. Of interest in Tea Gardens are Lions Park Lookout, the wharf area on Marine Drive, the excellent Tea Gardens Visitor Information Centre, the ferry across to Nelson Bay, boat hire services, cruises and fishing charters, the ocean beaches at Hawks Nest, Yacaaba Head, at the northern entrance to Port Stephens, and Myall Lakes National Park.
