Description of Uralla

Uralla is a rural service town on the Northern Tableland which calls itself 'Thunderbolt Country'. This reflects Uralla's connection with the legendary bushranger Captain Thunderbolt who was killed in 1870 after a local robbery. Relating to the bushranger are a statue, an exhibition at McCrossin's Mill Museum (1870), his grave in the Uralla Cemetery and an alleged hideout known as Thunderbolt Rock. Also of interest are the town's heritage buildings, the New England Brass and Iron Lace Foundry, the Uralla Military Museum and the Mt Yarrowyck Aboriginal Cultural Walk. Some fine rural accommodation is available for visitors to Uralla.
