Description of Bathurst

Bathurst is a major and historic city on the western edge of the Great Dividing Range. Once terrorised by bushranger Ben Hall, Bathurst is Australia's oldest inland city. It retains many fine historic buildings dating back as far as 1817 - the courthouse and Abercrombie House being highlights. Also of interest are Machattie Park, the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery, Sir Joseph Banks Nature Park, the Bathurst Goldfields, Bathurst Sheep and Cattle Drome and Mount Panorama which is one of the country's prime venues for touring car racing. Visitors to Bathurst will find cottages and other excellent accommodation.
